This item is fairly large, about 14 x 11 and it is quite heavy, solid cast iron. But I believe well worth the investment. This is a rare and wonderful object in all ways! It has a good deal of "market value" as well. The female figure depicted in the ornate design, we think, is meant to be a Guardian Angel.
She is actually more Faerie-like in appearance. If you take Biblical history literally, ALL Angels are male. The spirit who has attached herself to this item is a very strong guardian spirit, powerful, benevolent and also a bit quirky according to Maggie. She is a human spirit, a ghost, and her name is Petra. This old grate was originally placed on an unusual and apparently illegal family tomb on a large old property in northern Michigan.
Maggie said it was a beautiful structure and this grate covered a recessed window-like altar space. Because of the placement, there was very little exposure to the elements and it is in fantastic condition! Probably MEANT to be a vent or register cover inside a house.
The tomb found on the property became a legal and moral problem for the new owner. They had to relocate the remains interred there and there were no living family members. The structure, the building/tomb could stay. As renovations commenced on the main house, the owners wife found herself drawn out to the old tomb more and more frequently. They told Maggie that the woman on several occasions had found herself there in the middle of the night, having driven and then hiked in without being aware of it. Like sleep walking but DRIVING!! This "connection" was never explained.... There were unexplained events in and around house from the time that the clean out and renovations began. Missing items, reports of a dark haired woman in the woods, one workman reported seeing a pile of nails levitate into the air and then fall and scatter.
No one was harmed, but many hired workers quit and the spreading rumors made it difficult to hire and the renovations were slow going. I dont know who contacted Maggie, but she was known and had a reputation within the real estate community for being discreet and effective at clearing a haunting. Maggie connected with the spirit, Petra, quickly and easily.
The property and home had belonged to her family since the late 1800's. They had originally been immigrants from Mexico who had migrated north. Petra had died, transitioned to spirit, in what Maggie believes was the mid 1800's but she did not cross over... She had followed and coexisted with this family for several generations. Maggie said there was a genetic issue in this bloodline that resulted in the deaths of several children at very young ages, as well as the suicide of a grief stricken mother.
Petra's presence was known to the women in this small family in "some way". While Petra was a comforting ancestral spirit, she would not have been able to prevent the illness related deaths in this family nor the suicide of the bereaved mother. Those souls had fulfilled their destinies as it was meant to be. There came a time when the last living member of that family was one old man. He was related by marriage and not of Petra's bloodline.
The old man was aware of her presence and Maggie, through Petra, channeled a rainy morning where the old man "railed and cursed at the spirit" to leave him be and go away. Petra retreated to the tomb on the back of the property and she "communed" with ancient spirits in the surrounding forest, she continued to visit the home and she showed Maggie the afternoon when the old mans spirit left his body and traveled away. Maggie said Petra was quite taken with her... She seemed fascinated that Maggie could see her....She followed Mags around the house and the property and finally led Maggie to this piece and "superimposed" herself into the winged figure. Maggie felt this item was a chosen vessel long before Maggie found it. Maggie said Petra presents as a "young dark haired beauty with golden skin and eyes and a rainbow aura". Her essence is that of a young soul, but fierce and mighty. Maggie had no trouble convincing the owner to allow her to remove the grate, promising that all paranormal activity would cease. In Maggies house, this item was placed on top of a cabinet in the kitchen.
She had it leaning against the wall.... She kpet little indoor herb pots up there around the grate. Being among the kitchen witch spirits, the besoms, etc. Was the place that Maggie found Petra was the most comfortable. The kitchen was the hub of Maggies house and Petra likes being in the thick of things. She is by no means bound to this item and in fact she spent a great deal of time, Maggie said, wandering the garden, the greenhouse and Maggie even saw her in the neighboring yards and gardens often over the years. She has a strong earth element to her nature and she "tends to the growing things". This was an easy and lovely arrangement, but Petra is a guardian. By the time she came to Maggie, there were more dominant guardians in place. Petra will thrive best in an environment where she is needed as well as acknowledged and engaged. Maggie feels this particular vessel, this cast iron piece, will hold a special appeal to the person or persons she is most well suited to. This is a "social" spirit presence.
Maggie notes that in HER home, Petra was fairly overt and demonstrative in her activity and manifestations, but she is extremely sensitive to the needs and emotions of those around her and will discern how best to interact with a charge/keeper. She really likes children and Maggie saw her "play faerie" with many children who visited Maggies house over the years.I dont know what that means exactly, but Maggie wrote it. I brought this in from storage about a week ago and the main thing I noticed, and it started almost right away... Was a variety of small spirit lights (orbs) of varying color....
Only one at a time... Darting and sometimes hovering around the old photo I keep of Maggie on my bookshelf.
There has been other new activity around my house that may very well be attributed to Petra, but I cant be 100% positive as I have other spirited items out and about. I LOVE this item and the very warm presence. This is an item that I hope someone will adopt only if a strong draw... When purchasing items from "Maggie's House", please consider your acquisition as an ADOPTION! I have been blessed with some of the most wonderful , g enuine, benevolent and intuitive clients here that I could ever have hoped for.
About Maggie's House Estate Sale. In 2011 my dear friend Maggie, a respected and beloved spiritual medium left this world peacefully, at the age of 89. Maggie spent a lifetime accumulating unusual items, items that she believed have active attachments.
Items that called to her, or came to her doorstep. She lived in the same little old house in my neighborhood for the last 52 years of her life. She actively sought out items that she felt needed a "good home".She also did readings and home visits. She never charged for her services.
Many of the items were given to her for safe keeping or as gifts. Spending the day or evening at Maggies house was always filled with mystery and activity, some of it confounding and sometimes, admittedly a little spooky!
I met Maggie in 1994 while volunteering at local womens center, where Maggie was a devoted volunteer. Getting to know her was life changing experience for me.
I came to view the universe in a completely different light. I spent the last years of Maggies life keeping her company and helping out with things around the house pretty much every day.
We would spend hours and hours talking about many of the items in her collection and the history.... The particular spirit attached to them, or what she was trying to figure out about a particularly mysterious item. She said sometimes these spirits communicated right away, others.... She had to wait to find out who they were.
She was a brave and wonderful woman. About 2 years before her death, Maggie asked if I would take her beloved collection when she was gone and re home her tenants. Living with this collection has been VERY INTERESTING!
It sometimes feels like my whole house is haunted, but I know it is not. It is the spirits "visiting" their beloved belongings.Maggie told me she believed that most of these spirits are not bound to the earth, some are, but most simply like to visit and spend time. A "visit" can last years or only weeks at a time, but they always come back time and again. Each estate item I will list for sale certainly has value in and of itself, but they all come with a "bonus". When someone doesn't believe me, I say - spend one night in my house!
And there are many more non skeptics out there now! Maggie had only one living relative, a grand daughter. This young woman is very sensitive and sweet but being around spirit activity is very frightening to her. Please ask for more photos or information if you like. I have copious notes and lists on this collection and will do my best.
I have had direct interaction with many, many spirits visiting my home. Many of the items will come in "spirit" boxes. Maggie stored many many smaller items on bookshelves in these boxes. I make no guarantees of any intangible attributes. I welcome questions and will do my very best to answer, but some of these items have no written history and I can only relate my own experience or what has been told to me.Please be serious and responsible when considering taking one of these very special items into your home. When our physical bodies cease to function, the essence of us, our spirit, our soul, continues on with the journey.
In life, as human beings, we become attracted to and attached to our "stuff". We have objects that we covet. It may be an item that holds good memories, or a gift from a loved one. Sometimes we keep even the items that may hold sadness for us.The blanket of a departed child or a belt that was used to hurt us. A departing spirit often becomes attached and/or attracted to an item that was somehow significant in a death. A stolen wallet or piece of jewelry, a cup that held the poison or the hammer that struck the blow. I believe it is more common place than any of us can imagine, how many inanimate objects have the constant or frequent accompaniment of a departed soul that the item was important to. Maggie was certain that more often than not, there is a definite purpose to an attachment. The object may be destined to go to a person who needs the benefits of a certain energy, sometimes many years down the road. Other times, a spirit is lost and seeking comfort and guidance. A spirit is simply drawn to a beloved item from a former life because they like it. Maggie believed that most can freely pass between "realms" and are rarely stuck here. That being said, many of the items in Maggies collection are stuck or... Choose not to leave for one reason or another. Our sense of time cannot really be related to "their" sense of time.
