This is a VERY old Large [Vintage] Architectural Cast Iron Heating Grate we salvaged from a turn-of-the-century home from a coal region of Eastern Central Pennsylvania. It was located in a large dining room area and provided heat from a gravity-type boiler in the basement in the colder months. It is in very good condition as you can see, has the center removable round portion, and the screws are also original.
Our original intent was to build a small center table as I have some old oak legs, or as a decorative wall piece with a mirror behind it, but we decided otherwise in the end. The dimensions are approximately 31 by 27 and 1 thick with on its perimeter. When we retrieved it, the piece was covered by an old carpet, which led us to believe it hadnt been used for quite some time. As the pictures show, there is some light dusting and minimal surface rust, to be expected with a piece this old. There are NO cracks, NO splits, NO deep scratches, it is in very good condition and I will bet once cleaned up will be excellent.
I have not as yet cleaned it. It is very heavy, approximately 35-45 pounds. The asking price we believe is reasonable, given in particular its age and condition.
We have not seen many like this one before, and the ones that we have usually are cracked or painted over. I will pack it very carefully for you to prevent any damage.
