Signed & dated, architectural salvage piece. If I can read it correctly, I see PEERLESS MFG CO. May have been part of a fireplace/stove/furnace or maybe a heating vent. I hand picked(close to 4 hours) the 5 layers of paint off the ornate design! All heavy, cast iron construction. What is particularly striking is the quality & depth of the casting. The ordinary/common one will be nearly flat with little or no depth depth or texture, but this piece is off the charts! Overall, this beauty measures approx. Near the bottom, far left and right, there are small gaps that may have been filled at one time. Since it is missing at exactly the same place(left and right) the overall look is still perfectly symmetrical. Many other salvaged, Victorian era, architecturals listed. All questions encouraged and answered. The item "1887 Victorian Ornate Cast Iron Eastlake Fireplace Insert Cover Heat Grate Grill" is in sale since Sunday, March 18, 2018.
